Travel Your NRT -Terminal 1 Edition-
This new feature is for all the readers asking how they should spend their time at Narita Airport! In this edition I will focus on Terminal 1, with a list of spots and shops that will help you make the most of Narita Airport before setting off. Of course, those in the landside area (prior to departures) can also be enjoyed by arrivals and other visitors.
Landside (Before Passport Control)
[ Yakiniku Shokudo Yanma ]
Specializing in meat dishes, this restaurant is exclusive to Narita Airport. The specialty is yakisuki, sizzling wagyu paired with a special sauce and beaten egg. Special care is given to the thickness of meat and the temperature of the teppan in order to maximize the potential of the beef, which includes top-quality Matsusaka beef, as well as select wagyu rib, sirloin and a daily chef's platter containing four varieties.
As the special homemade yakisuki sauce is poured onto the teppan in front of you, the wagyu and sauce come together with the enticing sizzle of roasting meat. Even without adding the blended egg, the irresistibly delicious taste lingers on your tongue.

- I spoke with the restaurant's manager, Mr. Miyano. -
  • What is the best way to eat yakisuki?
First, have the vegetables and meat with the egg. Then try pouring the sauce on top of your rice! The rice we serve is actually grown on my family's farm, then polished before being brought here, so it is incredibly fresh. We take special care with every aspect of the flavor. Please come and see for yourself!

  • What menu items are popular?
Besides yakisuki, visitors from Asia enjoy the ox tongue and kalbi (ribs), while chicken is popular with Western customers.
Our food is well received by people of any nationality, all of whom can find something familiar.
This flavor can only be found at Narita Airport - I'm sure you'll be hooked.
Come and try yakisuki with the irresistibly fine marbling of Matsusaka beef!

With your hunger satisfied, it is time for shopping!
Narita Airport actually boasts the highest sales of any shopping center in Japan. According to the Senken Shimbun report.
[ Traveler's Factory Airport ]
I think there are many fans of travel, airports and planes who enjoy collecting related goods. In fact, I am one of them. This shop is packed with travel-themed items like stickers, notebooks and old stamps that are full of retro charm.
- I spoke with the shop's manager, Ms. Arata. -
  • What products would you recommend?
Traveler's Notebook - Airport Edition. Ideal for writing travel diaries, this Traveler's Notebook has a unique design exclusive to Narita Airport. It can also be customized by adding pockets or cards. Before take-off, start your diary by stamping the notebook with countries you will visit.

  • How do you put together a Traveler's Notebook?
Pasting larger stickers randomly, at slight angles, is an easy way to add a bit of style. Reading back your own original notes about the delicious food or beautiful scenery you encountered brings those memories vividly back to life in a different way to photos.
Even if drawing is not your forte, you can create a unique notebook by simply using the in-store stamps, or pasting in photos and clippings from tourist maps or brochures. Receipts and train tickets from abroad also make great materials! Our masking tape, decorated with views of Narita Airport and exclusive to this store, are another sure way to add accents for your notebook.
At Traveler's Factory Airport, we have many tools like the Traveler's Notebook that will make your trip even more enjoyable. Please stop by when embarking on your journey.

[ Extra: My Special Spot ]
When visiting an airport, what you really want to see is lots of planes, right?
While I recommend the ever-popular observation deck as well, you should also visit the space near Tully's Coffee in the South Wing. Spend a blissful moment watching aircraft at a closer distance than the observation deck, with coffee in hand. In fine weather, you can even see the beautiful evening sun setting behind the planes.
Airside (After Passport Control)
There are also many recommended spots after passing through passport control!
Here I will spotlight the area near Satellite 2 which underwent renewal last July. An expansive space featuring high ceilings and ample greenery, the area is popular with visitors.
[ FaSoLa STARS TAX FREE ]
It boasts a select lineup of brands, including some available for the first time at an airport. This completely new store brings together well-known fashion brands and premium confectionery popular in Japan and abroad.
- I spoke with Ms. Saito, the shop manager. -
  • What are your product recommendations?
Pocky PREMIÈRE CLASSE, a high-quality Pocky not available at any other store in the world. There are two types - classic Chocolate and the popular Matcha. The combination of rich-flavored chocolate, made with 100% whole milk powder from Hokkaido, and crisp cocoa biscuit is unlike any Pocky you've tasted before.

Make sure you also try the Saqu Langue de Chat from Ishiya Ginza. With various flavors of chocolate sandwiched between colorful langue de chat, Saqu carries the essence of renowned Shiroi Koibito cookies exclusive to Hokkaido. Dedicated to using ingredients from Hokkaido, the six flavors include Hokkaido Wine and Hokkaido Cheese. I also recommend the limited-edition Saqu Sakura, available in spring.
Besides famous confectionery, we also offer the latest fashion, from streetwear to brand collection items.
Whether looking or buying, you'll enjoy our range of products. We look forward to seeing you.

[ Ippudo ]
The first Ippudo at a Japanese airport, this store offers an exclusive veggie ramen and chicken soy ramen in addition to the classic tonkotsu flavor. The veggie ramen comes topped with some ten different types of vegetables, accented by a fragrant mushroom oil. With its special chicken and vegetable broth and pleasantly refreshing yuzu aftertaste, a bowl of chicken soy ramen is also bound to have you hooked.

You can't go past ramen as a last meal before boarding! Given the store's popularity, make sure you have some time to spare when dropping by.

Hours : 7:30am - last order 8:30pm

[ 7-Eleven ]
Now you can find a well-known convenience store even in the airside. Whenever I'm traveling, I stop by to pick up my favorite snacks and drinks to keep me company on board!
  • What products are popular?
As you may expect, the top item is water. People appreciate having access to cheap, delicious water. Also matcha-flavored items. Many people buy them in bulk as something that feels typically Japanese.

  • Are there any times when you are relatively quiet?
Around 2 in the afternoon. I recommend that time for anyone who prefers a leisurely browse.
Make sure you stop by before you fly!

[ Narita TraveLounge ]
My top recommendation for a relaxing way to spend your pre-departure time.
This lounge can be used by anyone departing on a flight from Terminal 1, regardless of the airline.
Enjoy our specialty coffee, made using 100% JAS-certified organic coffee beans, and the feeling of being right amongst the planes as they land and take off.
In addition to coffee, visitors can enjoy soft-drinks, or for an extra charge, alcoholic beverages and meals.

[ Extra: Kids Park ]
Popular spots for travelers with children.
Play equipment resembling animals and natural elements allows each child to have fun being creative, stacking like building blocks or climbing as they would on stilts and slides.
The Kids Park near Gate 51 also has an adjoining nursery to provide parents with greater peace of mind.

Note from the editor
Recently, some friends and I visited a place with all-you-can-eat strawberries! We had a great day out, comparing three types of strawberries with completely different flavors. Apparently Japanese strawberries are especially soft and sweet compared to others around the world.
In just three days the new school year will be upon us. And in Japan, the new emperor's era name will be announced. Let's welcome this new period full of hope and renewed commitment to do our best!
