NARITA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Issue No.109, 30/11/2020
Greetings from the Narita Airport email newsletter editorial office.
Only one month remaining to the end of the year. How has everyone been getting along?
I love Christmas and for me, drinking hot tea while listening to Christmas carols at home has become a daily ritual.

This month, we look at Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, a Southeast Asian country where winter is easily forgotten. I hope you enjoy the feature right through to the end.

Special feature
Destination Show Case No. 9: Kuala Lumpur Malaysia
This feature showcases cities served by direct flights from Narita Airport.
In this issue, we highlight Kuala Lumpur and its suburbs, the capital of Malaysia, a nation of rich diversity where different cultures and religion coexist.
Overseas travel is not possible these days, but I hope this feature gives you some of the travel spirit.
Spots
[ Central Market ]
First is Central Market with its impressive azure facade. This is one place that shopping lovers will not be able to get enough of. The interior of the building comprises two levels full of shops with cute accessories and bags that you will not be able to resist, as well as sweets that make perfect souvenirs.
In addition to the shopping, you really should get a henna tattoo when you visit Central Market! You might be hesitant when you hear the word "tattoo", but you can rest assured that henna tattoos will fade and disappear naturally in about a week. Choose a favorite design from the many examples available and you can get a beautiful henna tattoo almost straight away. A carefully chose design is the perfect way to boost your travel experience.
[ Batu Caves ]
Many Malaysians are followers of Islam or Buddhism but the Batu Caves are a sacred Hindu place.
The first thing you see when you arrive at Batu Caves is the huge gold statue! This is the statue of Lord Murugan, the Hindu god of war.
The colorful and very long stairs beside the statue are a 272-step climb to the entrance of the caves. The long climb is very tiring but the view at the top is unforgettable! There are many colorful buildings in the huge caves, presenting a fantastically beautiful view of nature and man-made structures standing side by side.
Batu Caves are about 30 minutes by train from Kuala Lumpur city. Not only the view but also access is excellent!
[ Putra Mosque ]
The Putra Mosque, with its distinctively cute pink color, is located in Putrajaya, about 40 minutes by train from Kuala Lumpur city. It's stunning beauty will leave you transfixed!? (Incidentally, the author of this article spent hours there.)
Even if you are not Muslim, you can enter the Putra Mosque and gaze at the interior. However, it is a religious facility so please be careful about the clothes you wear.

The Malaysian Prime Minister's residence is right next door and you can't miss its majestic palace-like appearance. If you are visiting the Putra Mosque you should also check this out!
Food
[ Mie Goreng ]
Of course, if you are in Malaysia, you must have Mie Goreng! This is a classic noodle dish that is often eaten not only in Malaysia but also in neighboring countries Indonesia and Singapore but is very similar in appearance to Japanese yakisoba. Shrimp and chicken fried with seasonings often used in Southeast Asia go great with noodles! The sweet, rich flavor is very habit forming and you will find yourself wanting to eat it again and again.
By the way, Nasi Goreng, which has a very similar name, is a rice dish with fried rice instead of noodles. "Mie" means "noodles" and "Nasi" means "rice" but similar seasoning is used. Which would you prefer, Mie Goreng or Nasi Goreng? Why not try both?
[ Nyonya Laksa ]
Laksa, like Mie Goreng, is a classic Malaysian noodle dish. "Peranakan cuisine" is a traditional Malaysian cuisine that emerged from the fusion of Chinese and Malay food cultures. Coconut milk, which is characteristic element in Southeast Asian cuisine, is used for seasoning, and the rich taste is also habit forming. I encourage you to try the Peranakan cuisine which is full of the flavors of multi-ethnic Malaysia.
