NARITA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Issue No.115, 31/5/2021
Greetings from the Narita Airport email newsletter editorial office.
We hear a lot about sustainable development goals (SDGs) these days and it is common to see eco-friendly manufactured products and initiatives. Sustainable sneakers made of eco-friendly material have also caught my interest.
Aviation also is inextricably linked to the environment. For that reason, in this issue we are focusing on the initiatives by Narita Airport that are making steady progress in reducing our impact on the environment.

We are proud to introduce to you the eco-airport initiatives at Narita Airport!
We have touched on this on Facebook before but did you know that Narita Airport has an eco-airport program extending across the entire airport which incorporates a wide range of environmental initiatives? In this issue, we would like to share with you some of the examples of our efforts that are close to home!
Reducing Plastic Waste
In September 2019, Narita Airport declared itself a Plastic Smart Airport and has taken a leading role in tackling plastic waste.
Shops and lounges under the direct management of the NAA Group are introducing the use of paper and wooden straws to replace all disposable plastic items by fiscal 2025.
We are also working to reduce the use of single-use plastic bags by gradually switching to eco-friendly materials for shopping bags in our stores, and producing and selling original eco-friendly bags* when plastic bags were introduced as a chargeable item last year.

*Original eco-bags are no longer available for sale.
Effective Use of Felled Trees
As we move forward with the program to enhance the functionality of Narita Airport, we assumed that this will involve cutting down a large number of trees.
In April this year, cedar, cypress, mountain cherry and other trees cut down for archeological research in the area were recycled into wood chips and distributed to local residents. Around 3 tonnes of wood chips were distributed over two days and proved extremely popular for gardening and other purposes.
Energy Conservation Strategies in the New Central Ramp Tower
The new central ramp tower which opened in September last year incorporates energy conservation strategies in its design. The building's exterior sashes are made of materials that dissipate heat, and an efficient air conditioning system reduces the energy load.
The passenger terminal interiors also are operated to conserve energy while offering comfort. Next time you are in our area, take a look at these strategic design enhancements!
Sustainable NRT 2050
Sustainable NRT 2050, a new framework for reducing the airport's environmental impact, was formulated in March this year. The aim of the framework is to achieve net zero* CO2 emissions by the NAA Group and a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions from Narita Airport compared to the 2015 benchmark year by fiscal 2050.
By introducing advanced technology and strengthening our partnerships with our stakeholders, we will contribute to decarbonization and the realization of a sustainable society.

*We will achieve real zero emissions without relying on a credits mechanism by introducing renewable energy to cut CO2 emissions and then offset those emissions through methods such as absorption by afforestation.

Click here for further information about Sustainable NRT 2050.
What do you think? The initiatives we have featured here are just a small part of what Narita Airport is doing. You will be pleased to know that Narita Airport is continuing to work on environmental matters despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pop-up Event: "Jobless Reincarnation: I Will Seriously Try If I Go to Another World"!
Narita Anime Deck on the 2nd floor of the main building in Terminal 2 holds limited time pop-up event for "Jobless Reincarnation: I Will Seriously Try If I Go to Another World"!
The character goods shop is selling especially drawn illustrations of Roxy, Alice and Sylphiette in their cabin attendant costumes. I particularly recommend the nameplate badges with the illustrations of the characters and each of their names which are typically worn by cabin attendants!

I should add that the Narita Anime Deck dine-in restaurant serves up a delicious collaborative menu. Rudeus' Quagmire Curry will be on the menu from Saturday, 29 May with an original travel sticker with each dish!
Don't forget to get your original coaster gift for each person ordering from the collaboration menu!

Date : 24 April, 2021 - 29 June, 2021
Place : Narita Anime Deck on the 2nd floor of the main building in Terminal 2

Sanrio Character Goods Collaboration Cafe!

Narita Anime Deck Entertainment Cafe will also host for a limited time the Sanrio Characters Collaboration Cafe featuring Cinnamoroll, Hello Kitty and My Melody!

Nostalgia Cafe is the theme and the Collaboration Cafe offers a corner to learn more about the characters with a photo spot and introductions to each. Original food and drinks inspired by the characters will be available. I recommend the Cinnamoroll Yukimi Daifuku Plate (with a novelty toy) which incorporates the very popular Yukimi Daifuku mochi ice cream from Lotte. It is a cute product that uses the Yukimi Daifuku ice cream to recreate Cinnamoroll.

In addition to that, the cafe offers "latte prints" with a choice of designs and flavors featuring very cute characters dressed as baristas. There are several variations to choose from and enjoy something different every time. Take advantage of this opportunity to come and enjoy.

Date : 14 April, 2021 - 29 June, 2021
Place : Narita Anime Deck on the 2nd floor of the main building in Terminal 2
