Rediscovering the Attraction of Japan! Interviews with Visitors to Japan!
"We absolutely love Japan! We want to come here as often as we can!"

-Mark and Rick from Taiwan
Two friends were visiting for the first time in six months. But they say they are planning another trip here in August. And what was their reason for coming to Japan this time? "Shopping in Akihabara for anime figures!", they said straight away.
Both Mark and Rick are fans of anime such as Sailor Moon, and on this trip, they planned to stay in Ueno, which is not far from Akihabara, and go shopping.

Due in part to the weak yen, travel to Japan has become so accessible. It is undoubtedly a great opportunity for visitors. I We are so envious!
Enjoying a stopover in Japan on the way back from partner's country

-Dale from Australia and Jini from Korea
Next, we spoke to Dale and Jini, who were leaving for Australia after a visit back home in Korea where Jini is from. They took a three-day stopover in Japan on their way back.

Some airlines allow stopovers of 24-hours or more when transiting at a city on their way to their final destination. Our couple arrived from Korea and, rather than take a connecting flight on the same day that they arrived at Narita Airport, they opted for a stopover in Japan. Narita Airport has seen a growing demand for transit passengers in recent years.
Event space interviews! Photo opportunities with sumo wrestlers.

On June 12th and 13th, an event was held with the support of the Sumida Ward Tourism Association in which visitors had the opportunity to meet sumo wrestlers from the Miyagino stable. Events at Narita Airport had to be put on hold for the past three years due to the COVID pandemic, but they are slowly returning this fiscal year.
I want to explore my roots in Hattori-cyo in Mie Prefecture where my great-grandfather was born

-Veronica and Matthew from California
Veronica, Matthew and their family visited the event. Their two children were surprised when they first saw the three huge sumo wrestlers! (From left to right: Mukainakano, Kurokage, and Raiho)
When they were asked, "How about a hug?" by the wrestlers, the answer from both children was a definite "Nooo...!"

This was the family's first visit to Japan, and we asked them why they had come.

Veronica:
"We planned a three-week family vacation during the school holidays and wanted to spend that time seeing Japan. My great-grandfather was Japanese. My sons are the fourth generation of the family with Japanese roots. My great-grandfather moved to Argentina in 1920, but he was originally from Hattori in Mie Prefecture. I am so happy that my wish has come true, and I have been able to come to Japan."

I didn't get a chance to tell Veronica but Mukainakano, the sumo wrestler she was photographed with, is also from Mie Prefecture where her great-grandfather was born. Quite a coincidence.
First time in Japan! Visiting partner's home.

-Reika from Japan and Alex from the U.S.
We next interviewed Reika from Japan, and Alex, from the United States. Alex tried his hand at a pushing match with one of the sumo wrestlers.

Neither side would give in, and it became a heated battle! And the winner was . . . Alex! What a proud expression on his face.

What a surprise to see a child riding on a motorized suitcase!

-Sithina and her family from Cambodia
As we were walking through Terminal 1, we noticed a boy driving a motorized suitcase, steering it with the handle! Watching it move smoothly through the terminal without a sound, we couldn't help but call out.

Sithina:
"It runs on batteries, pretty cool, right? I bought it for this trip and knew that my son would love it."
Enjoying Japan on a workcation

-Jonathan from Germany, Emanuela from Brazil, ELYSE and Victor from U.S.
The last interview was with a group of four carrying large pillows to use on the plane. They had been in Japan on a one month workcation.
We snapped a photo of Jonathon buying lots of snacks to take back home.
[ From Our Editorial Staff ]
We spoke to a total of 20 couples and groups, but we are only able to publish just a small portion of the people we spoke to about their travels. However, the interviews helped us to rediscover the attraction of Japan. We would like to thank everyone that we interviewed for their cooperation.
